What is Spinal Decompression?

Spinal decompression is a non-surgical treatment, which stretches the spine and works differently than traditional traction methods which have been historically used. This computerized decompression table works in a gentle-programmed manner to increase the spacing between the vertebra with minimal or no pain from muscle spasms, reducing pressure on sensitive nerve and joint tissue to promote tissue healing.

The long-term benefits that can be achieved with non-surgical decompression methods make it a more viable option than medication alone, and are safer and more cost effective than surgical options. Spinal decompression is also approved by the FDA for treating pain associated with herniated discs.

Why Have Spinal Decompression Therapy?

How Is Nonsurgical Spinal Decompression Done?

A history and physical is performed to determine if a patient qualifies for this treatment approach. Medical imaging may also be necessary in some cases. You are fully clothed during spinal decompression therapy. The doctor fits you with a harness around your pelvis. You either lie face down or face up (depending on your position of comfort) on a computer-controlled table. Dr. Hoyt sets the computer, customizing treatment to your specific needs.

Are Other Types of Therapy Utilized with Decompression Therapy?

This type of therapeutic approach is always utilized in conjunction with a chiropractic adjustment. Improving motion in the spine is always important with any spinal condition. Chiropractic adjustments of various types, whether by hand or with an instrument are performed to fit the needs of the patient.

In addition, to greatly enhance the decompression experience and speed recovery with many cases, Dr. Hoyt will utilize K-Laser therapy with spinal decompression. This highly-effective infrared laser therapy treatment helps increase microcirculation (blood flow in the capillaries), reduce pain, reduce inflammation, and enhance tissue healing—both in hard and soft tissues, including muscles, ligaments, or even bones. The same boost in blood flow that enhances healing also permits more efficient drainage of the substances that trigger inflammation in tissues, as well as other pain-producing waste materials such as lactic acid. As a result, this is an effective treatment for acute conditions as well as the inflammation, stiffness and other discomfort associated with chronic pain conditions and degenerative ailments.
